Wooing for Jobs

#Wooing the jobseeker has always been an integral part of the placement business. So, why is there an increasing apathy towards them.

Yes we are complaining. Over the years jobseekers have enjoyed being  chased at home and office, We have been headhunted and fished thru the network as well as the grapevine. So why this icy frost in our tropical paradise ?

There are a few reasons why.

Placement Firms are definitely suffering from intense competition. There has been an unprecedented growth in the number of placement agencies. Dog fights don’t make good moods.

But what needs to be urgently addressed is the need for placement agencies to define themselves thru their specializations. And most important to stick by it. So jobseekers know where not to go.

We all agree that the refrain of don’t call us we will call you is impolite. Especially when everyone is called to the party and then you get the special privilege of  getting kicked out at the door.

This adhoc method of finding candidates on a need basis rather than cultivating  and nurturing a job market segment reflects a  narrow perspective of the placement business . One that is detrimental to one’s own survival.

Shortcuts are also dangerous for the same reason. This tendency of relying on job websites ,who mass circulate resumes either as a free or a subscribed service, without realizing exactly how  one is being short charged on exclusivity is rampant.

The pressure of competition does not justify a short term solution  even if the methodology is inexpensive , easy and savvy.

Its like a serpent eating its own tail. How long can it last?

Hungry? We must know when to go on a diet.
