You need not be wrong just because
you don’t have an answer. But you cannot be right if you don’t know the
password.
There are two kinds of people. Those who are indifferent - And those who are different
Those who are indifferent are in the majority, and have the passwords. So they do not have to think or guess.
The others who are different – usually are like Moses wandering in the desert, studying the pole star rather than using geo – cell phone. We really do not know what to do with them except tell our daughter that he is a no good match for her.
This is the age of the Know and the Do!
Instant decision making is a hallmark of our times. This is because we are in the midst of extreme consumerism believing that information will be a guide to correct decision making. That is putting a lot of importance on knowledge that will guide us to take the correct decision.
Perhaps that is why in spite of complaining so much about the bombardment of advertising in our lives we also are relieved that it exists. Easy information so we need not worry about decision making. If competing products create conflicts we just decide to buy the after-shave lotion that Amitabh Bacchan or Tiger Woods use.The ads tell us all…
Commercials tell us why we should decide to buy that one over another one. Like buy Ponds Age Miracle cream before the wrinkles set in or buy Madhu’s Bottled Aloe Vera to improve your longevity and sex life. Companies selling cars, insurance, schools, soaps and baby lotion roll out information by the kilos to any who may want to exercise a choice.
But today, advertising is not under the bracket of knowledge but of misinformation or redirection or embellishment of data – call it what you like. I am calling a spade a spade.
But the problem with information is obvious – like beauty which lies in the eye of the beholder, knowledge too is subjective to the brain of the beholder.
What we bypass is the fact that subjective decision making is a skill that most of us ignore to develop.
Considering the fact that knowledge is fed to us in an organized, methodical and institutionalized manner, there is no way we can escape facts. They become unquestionable – 2 plus 3 = 5 or that our solar system was formed by a big bang.
Why reinvent the wheel we are told. And to some degree it is true. But unless we know what to do with a wheel it cannot be useful to us. The easiest way would be to find out the 10 uses for a wheel. But thinking beyond the uses or limitations of the wheel is what makes us grow in life.
Knowledge may be important but there is more to knowledge then knowing the answers.
